What to expect at the 2025 Tulane Research, Innovation, and Creativity Summit

The Tulane University Office of Research and the Tulane Innovation Institute will host the third annual Tulane Research, Innovation, and Creativity Summit (TRICS) from April 8 to April 10 at the historic Civic Theatre in downtown New Orleans. The event will feature research presentations, panel discussions, networking opportunities, and more. Abstract submissions for posters are open until February 28, 2025, and registration to attend is now available.
TRICS allows graduate and undergraduate students, postdoctoral researchers, faculty, and staff from all Tulane schools and academic fields to showcase their work. Attendees will engage in interdisciplinary dialogue and collaborative discussions on the university’s broad spectrum of research and innovation.
TRICS will also feature several monetary awards for submitted posters, recognizing outstanding research and innovative contributions. The School of Liberal Arts will present awards for Best Overall Poster ($200), Most Innovative Design ($100), and Outstanding Research, Scholarship, or Creativity ($100). The Tulane Innovation Institute will award $1,000 prizes for Innovation and Societal Impact, recognizing research that advances societal well-being, and Innovation and Technology Development, which highlights projects with commercialization potential. The Tulane National Primate Research Center will present two $500 awards to graduate students or postdoctoral fellows for excellence in scientific communication, originality, and visual presentation.

This year’s event will feature an opening keynote address by Greg Buchert, MD, MPH (PHTM '79, M '83, R '85), who recently took on the role of chair of the Dean’s Advisory Council for the Celia Scott Weatherhead School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine. With over 30 years of experience in healthcare, Dr. Buchert has a background in managed care health plans, hospital administration, and medical group management. He is the President and CEO of GSB Health Management Solutions, a boutique consulting firm dedicated to improving healthcare delivery for vulnerable populations. Dr. Buchert is a Tulane alumnus, holding a Doctor of Medicine degree from the Tulane University School of Medicine and a Master of Public Health in Health Care Administration from the Tulane University School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine.
On the second night of the event, April 9, TRICS will host the Open Medical Innovation Challenge (OPEN MIC) Night pitch event. This exciting competition, presented by the Tulane Innovation Institute and the John W. Deming Department of Medicine at the Tulane University School of Medicine, invites the entire Tulane community to submit their early-stage solutions to health and wellness challenges. Participants will have the chance to win prize money and gain access to additional mentorship programs. Applications to pitch at the event are currently open.
TRICS will also host a special Faculty Research Mixer luncheon, allowing faculty members to present their research and build connections for potential collaborations. This networking event encourages interdisciplinary collaboration and new research initiatives within Tulane’s academic community.
