Biography

Dr. Cecilia Suarez joins Tulane University School of Social Work from the University of Florida where she served as the faculty president of the Latinx Staff and Faculty Association (LSFA), and on the executive board for Café Latino, meeting the needs of the Latinx population in Florida. In addition, Dr. Suarez served as a faculty affiliate of the Center for Latin American Studies, the Education Policy Research Center, and as a Faculty in Residence for Hispanic Latino Affairs within Multicultural and Diversity Affairs. Dr. Suarez's work is based in professional teaching, leadership, mentoring, creating anti-racist learning environments, and utilizing critical and intersectional scholarship and advocacy to disrupt educational inequities. 

Dr. Suarez's research focuses on culturally relevant teaching and leadership development practices for marginalized communities and students in college. Dr. Suarez has published over 14 papers and books chapters in these areas and has also co-edited and co-authored the book Condition or Process: Researching Race in Education. Dr. Suarez is recognized both locally and nationally as a valued speaker and facilitator in the areas of EDI, college success, student advocacy, faculty development, and working with universities and individuals to promote environments where everyone can thrive equally. Dr. Suarez is an award-winning expert mentor and has served on over 30 Ph.D dissertation committees.
