Julia Lang, M.S.
PROFESSOR OF PRACTICE AND DIRECTOR, CAREER EDUCATION & LIFE DESIGN
Biography
Julia Lang is a Professor of Practice and the Associate Director for Career Education and Life Design and at the Taylor Center for Social Innovation and Design Thinking at Tulane University. In her role, Lang creates life design curricula to support undergraduate and graduate students in creating changemaking professional pathways, trains and supervises instructors to teach courses, and facilitates design thinking workshops for university and community partners. In 2016, Lang created Taylor Your Life, a changemaking career development lab for upperclassmen, which has since scaled to reach hundreds of students across the university and is currently offered via 20 sections/year at Tulane from instructors across the university. Her first-year course, Taylor Your Tulane, supports first year students in designing their college experience and is now taught to every incoming student athlete at Tulane and offered via multiple TIDES sections. Lang’s life design curricula has reached over 12,000 learners worldwide.
At Tulane, Lang also runs the Changemaker Institute, incubating social ventures in the Tulane community by fostering learning and growth, community partnerships, mentorship, and the development of social entrepreneurial skills among graduate students and exceptional undergraduates in the early idea phase of social venture development.
Lang has a B.S. in Human Development from Cornell University, and a M.S. in Education from Oregon State University, where she helped launch the Center for Civic Engagement, developing service-learning trips and programs throughout the Northwest. Previously, Lang led community engagement curricula and programs with the Civic Leadership Institute at the University of California, Berkeley and led transformative experiential gap-year programs for American students throughout Central America, South America and Southeast Asia with National Geographic Student Expeditions, Carpe Diem Education, and Rustic Pathways.
Lang is also a coach with Stanford University’s Life Design Studio and a higher education consultant, supporting colleges, universities, and K-8 school embed life design into their curriculum and prepare for the future of work.
